‘Balance Rocket’ is a playful, slightly surreal linocut print exploring the idea of balance in its own offbeat way.
A strange little suited character teeters confidently on top of a vintage children’s rocket ride, caught somewhere between motion and stillness. Perched on his hat, a small bird mirrors the act — adding a quiet second point of balance to the scene. Around them, a loose scattering of stars and shapes gives the composition a sense of rhythm rather than stability.
The piece was originally created as part of the imprinted_printX_uk2 Instagram print exchange, where the theme was ‘balance’. A small variation of this print was exchanged as part of that project, making this edition a slightly different and unique version.
Printed using a 5 colour reduction linocut process, each layer is carefully carved and printed in sequence. This method means no two prints are ever completely identical, with subtle shifts in alignment and ink coverage adding to the character of each piece.
